Welcome to the NSBE Silicon Valley Alumni Extension website! |
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the website of the National Society of Black Engineers Alumni Extension Silicon Valley Chapter (NSBE-AE-SVC). This is an exciting time to be a member of NSBE in the Silicon Valley. We hope you find the information in this site useful.
After the economic downturn in early 2000 the chapter was dissolved. Many of the executive board members were forced to find work outside of the Silicon Valley. Since June of 2006 the board has been working to bring the chapter back to life and once again be a force in the community. We have had successes along the way, and have also experienced new challenges. Our executive board is committed to facing these challenges head-on, and supporting the needs of our membership.
We begin our new and exciting journey by kicking-off a meet and greet event, the joint holiday networking mixer, (hosted by the Silicon Valley alumni chapters of NSBE/SHPE/SWE/ONYX, sponsored by Google), on December 3rd, 2009. General body meetings will resume in January, 2010, held on every fourth Saturday of the month.
We also look forward to bringing back many of the staple events from past years, including mixers, power lunches, pre-college initiative support, Unity Banquet, professional development, and community service activities. Recently, we held a power lunch, and participated in a community service event, which included volunteering at a local food bank.
Our monthly meetings regularly include discussion forums on topics relevant to our community, or a technical/professional development presentation. It’s not all work though, NSBE knows how to have fun too. We have several events geared toward forming friendships and socializing with other professionals in the area. We hope that you will join us in our quest to fulfill the NSBE mission: “To increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact their communities.”
Together we can make Silicon Valley a great place for black professionals to live and work.
Thank you for your interest and support!
